Fall Begins: What's Happening in Lake Norman & Charlotte Right Now
Updated September 28. Fall is officially here, the most anticipated restaurant opening of the season just happened in downtown Mooresville, and October is stacking up to be one of the best calendars this region has seen. Here is the hyper-local update from your Lake Norman insider.
Fall is officially here, and around Lake Norman that means the season of everything has begun. The late-September festivals have wrapped, Oktoberfest is headed to Ballantyne, the corn mazes are open, and the October calendar is stacked. Whether you live here or you are scouting the area for a move, this is the stretch of the year the region truly shows off.
I am Tiffany Huntoon, a REALTOR and Production Partner on The Lauren Rocco Team at eXp Realty. North Carolina born and raised, I am a veteran of both the Army and Air Force, I spent years in corporate tech sales, and I came home to help families find their own slice of this region. I serve buyers and sellers across Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Charlotte, Concord, and Kannapolis, and I keep these guides updated so you always know what is worth your weekend. So let me tell you what is happening right now, and what to circle before it fills up.
This Week: September 28 - October 4
Updated September 28. The Charlotte Film Festival, the Kannapolis market finale, Breakaway, and Oktoberfest at Cabarrus Brewing have all wrapped. From here the week belongs to October: Mecktoberfest moving to Ballantyne, the Renaissance Festival opening at Rural Hill, and the Concord International Festival. Here is what to circle.
A note on dates: Event dates and times are published by each town and venue and can shift, so it is always worth confirming with the organizer before you head out.
Mecktoberfest at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
Charlotte's favorite German-style celebration moves to the Ballantyne taproom for the first two weekends of October. Seasonal brews, brats, live oompah bands, and stein-holding contests, all an easy drive from the lake. Worth circling twice.
Lake Norman Philharmonic: Free Community Concert
The Lake Norman Philharmonic opens its season with a free community concert under the open sky at Liberty Park. Pack a blanket, bring the family, and let the orchestra do the rest.
Concord International Festival
A free celebration of global music, arts, and food cultures in the heart of downtown Concord. A wonderful way to show the whole family how internationally connected this region has become.
Downtown Mooresville Festival of Food Trucks
Fifteen-plus food trucks, live music, and Mooresville's social district all along the downtown streets. Pair it with a drink at Deepwell and you have a perfect fall Saturday night.
Carolina Renaissance Festival Opening Weekend
The Southeast's premier Renaissance festival opens this weekend with jousting, artisan crafts, turkey legs, and kid-approved entertainment, and it runs every weekend into late November. Buy tickets online in advance, especially for Saturdays.
Fresh Dining News: What Just Opened & What's Next
The dining scene has not slowed down all year, and this week brings the biggest opening of the season in Mooresville, plus a wave of what is coming next across North Meck and Cabarrus. Here is where to point the car right now.
Deepwell
MooresvilleThe most anticipated opening in the lake towns just happened: Deepwell opened Wednesday, September 16 in downtown Mooresville at the corner of Broad and Main, from Joe and Katy Kindred (the team behind Davidson's celebrated Kindred) with chef Craig Deihl in the kitchen. New Orleans-inspired cooking and cocktails in the heart of an already-booming downtown. Go early and book ahead, because everyone is talking about it.
Suffolk Punch Brewing
HuntersvilleBirkdale Village's brewery is expanding into a full all-day format with a scratch kitchen, a full-service coffee bar, and craft beer and cocktails. The lower level is already operating, and the rooftop is expected to finish by the end of the year. A fresh reason to spend an afternoon at Birkdale.
Cocotte
HuntersvilleThe French bakery behind some of the best croissants and pastries in the area already has a Cornelius location, and now it is opening a second Lake Norman outpost in Huntersville before the year closes. Watch for the opening date if you like your Saturday coffee run to come with a perfect pain au chocolat.
The Union Sky
ConcordConcord's first rooftop restaurant and cocktail lounge is set to open this fall on the seventh floor of NOVI Lofts at 26 Union Street South. It was the announcement everyone talked about in August, and downtown Concord has not had anything like it. Watch for the date and get a reservation early.
Vitale Lakeside
MooresvilleThe Vitale Hospitality Group's waterfront restaurant at the former Queens Landing site on the Mooresville side keeps generating buzz as it aims for a late-2026 debut. Burgers, steaks, pizza, Italian, and seafood with dock access planned. A game-changer for lakefront dining if the timeline holds.
Local's tip from Tiffany: If you only make one dining trip this month, make it to downtown Mooresville. Deepwell just opened at Broad and Main, and it joins a Main Street that keeps getting better. Grab a morning coffee at Dulcet and Delish Cafe, a steak dinner at Epic Chophouse, wood-fired pizza at Alino Pizzeria, or burgers and a beer garden at The Barcelona Burger and Beer Garden. It is the most walkable food scene in the lake towns right now.

October Preview: The Big Calendar Is Here
October starts with a bang across all seven towns: the Renaissance Festival opens in Huntersville, festivals land in Concord and Mooresville and Kannapolis the same weekend, and the speedway hosts its biggest race weekend of the fall. This is the list I would print and put on the fridge.
Carolina Renaissance Festival
The Southeast's premier Renaissance festival returns for weekends of jousting, artisan crafts, turkey legs, and family entertainment. It draws visitors from across the region, so buy tickets online in advance, especially for Saturdays.
Pair it with a stop at Deepwell for a drink and you have a perfect fall Saturday night.
Movie Night at the Ballpark
Kannapolis screens Beauty and the Beast on the big ballpark video board, free and family-friendly. Bring a blanket, grab dinner at The Bank Food Hall first, and stroll the West Avenue social district after.
Laketoberfest
A free, family-friendly fall festival in Cornelius with live music, North Carolina beer and wine, food trucks, and a kids' zone. A signature fall event in the lake towns and one to put on the calendar now.
NASCAR Bank of America 400 Weekend
The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs roll into the Charlotte ROVAL for the Bank of America 400 on Sunday the 11th, with racing action all weekend at the speedway complex. One of the biggest sports weekends of the year right in our backyard.
Lake Norman Diwali
The annual Diwali celebration returns to Veterans Park at Main and Maxwell with lights, music, food, and family festivities. A lovely evening that showcases the region's cultural calendar in a big way.

Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes & Farm Fun
Nothing says fall in the Piedmont like a Saturday at a farm. Here are the patches and mazes the locals actually go to, from Huntersville to Mooresville, plus a big theme-park option for the Halloween crowd.
Rural Hill Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch
The celebrated Amazing Maize Maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, and Highland cows at one of the region's most beautiful historic properties. In October the maze stays open after dark on Friday and Saturday nights, which the kids never forget. Bring a flashlight.
Carrigan Farms
Pumpkin picking returns October 1 at this Mooresville favorite: a hayride out to the patch where you pick your pumpkin right off the vine, plus a petting zoo, apple cider, and donuts. It has hosted generations of Lake Norman families.
Patterson Farm
Fall Fun on the Farm runs into late November with a corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, cow train rides, and more than 40 attractions. A short drive from the lake and worth a full afternoon.
SCarowinds & Tricks and Treats
Carowinds celebrates its 25th SCarowinds season with haunted mazes and scare zones for the brave, while the family-friendly Tricks and Treats daytime events keep the littles happy. Something for every age group this October.
Outdoor & Family-Friendly: Now Through October
The weather has turned toward the best of the year, and the outdoor scene shifts from the water to the trails, the fields, and the festival lawns. Here is how to spend the next several weekends with the people you love.
U.S. National Whitewater Center
Whitewater rafting, kayaking, zip lines, and mountain biking, plus the free River Jam concert series on Thursday through Saturday evenings. Cooler fall days make the trails and courses even better, and the color along the Catawba is a bonus.
Latta Nature Preserve
1,460 acres with 16+ miles of hiking trails, the Carolina Raptor Center, an aquarium, and lake access. As the leaves turn, the trails pick up the first hints of color, and the bird-of-prey flights at the Raptor Center are a highlight for kids and adults alike.
Lake Norman State Park
The swimming beach winds down as the water cools, but the 30+ miles of hiking and mountain biking trails are entering their best season. Autumn is spectacular here, and weekday visits are blissfully quiet.
Friday Night Lights
As a mom of two high school soccer players, this is my favorite time on the sidelines. Fall in the Lake Norman towns means Friday-night football, weekend soccer on green fields, and the community that turns out for it all. A wonderful way to feel at home fast.

Why This Moment Matters for Homebuyers
As a REALTOR, I love this stretch of the year because it is when so many relocating families turn summer curiosity into real decisions. They have spent the warm months touring the towns, eating at the new restaurants, walking the greenways, and picturing Friday nights on a ballpark lawn. Then the school year starts, the community rallies around a home game or a harvest festival, and the pull to put down roots gets strong.
The momentum in Mooresville, Concord, and Kannapolis especially is something to see firsthand. A town's new restaurants, rooftops, food halls, and gathering places are the strongest signal of a community that is growing in the right way. That is part of what I look at with every buyer: not just the house, but the life around it.
Whether you are a growing family looking at the right school district in Huntersville or Cornelius, a military family relocating to the region, a first-time buyer exploring Concord or Kannapolis, or someone ready to downsize to the lake, I bring the same strategic approach I used in military intelligence and corporate sales to every client, combined with real local knowledge and warm, down-to-earth care.
If you are even beginning to think about a move, now is a great time to start the conversation. Let us talk about what you are looking for, or explore our community guides and our latest market report to see what is happening in your target town.
